Other: The Municipality of East Hants is a vibrant and flourishing community and one of the fastest growing areas in Nova Scotia. Bordering on the Halifax Regional Municipality, and within ten minutes of the Halifax International Airport, the Municipality offers a unique blend of rural and urban communities. Applications are currently being received from qualified professionals with strong interpersonal skills for the two casual positions Senior Planner and Project Planner. Senior Planner Reporting directly to the Director of Planning and Development, this position is responsible for providing leadership to a staff of three (3) in the day-to-day management of the Planning Division of the Department. Duties also include managing the processing of development applications and amendments to the Municipal Planning Documents, as well as preparing staff reports and presentations for Council and other groups. This position represents the Director as necessary. The preferred candidate will have strong interpersonal and public relation skills along with superior presentation, problem solving, technical and written communication skills. This includes the ability to facilitate, negotiate and resolve conflict. The preferred candidate must also be able to interpret planning and development legislation and regulations within the MGA, have a thorough knowledge of MS Office and be able to work in a fast paced, deadline orientated environment with multiple tasks. Preference will be given to candidates with Municipal experience. If you have a Bachelors Degree in Planning or a related field along with a minimum of (7) year’s relevant experience with two (2) years being in a managerial/supervisory role we are interested in hearing from you. The salary range for this casual position is $53,600 – 67,000. Project Planner Reporting directly to the Senior Planner, the Project Planner is responsible for coordinating and undertaking research projects, as well as preparing policies, reports and background documentation in relation to planning issues. This position also processes development applications, provides information to residents and makes presentations to a variety of committees and groups. The preferred candidate will have strong interpersonal, technical and public relations skills, as well as advanced written skills and computer skills in MS Office. Preference will be given to candidates with Municipal experience.
