The Job Search Centre Support is the first point of contact within the Nova Scotia Works Employment Services Centre in Elmsdale; the role is responsible for greeting clients and visitors in a professional and friendly manner, introducing the job search services, making referrals to the appropriate staff and promoting workshops, and all other services offered through the centre.

Job Description:

  • Greet and welcome clients and visitors; promote all activities of the Nova Scotia Works Centre
  • Assist with client’s information Intake Form
  • Identify and assess client’s job search needs and provide the following (if applicable); assist with self-directed job search needs including creating and updating quality resumes and cover letters or assisting clients in doing so; guide and instruct clients using the internet as it related to employment, career, and labour market information; refer clients to appropriate workshops
  • Print & post local job postings in the job binder, check postings for closing dates
  • Maintain & update resource materials
  • Inform clients of new and relevant local jobs postings and remain abreast of the local job market
  • Assist the Workshop Facilitator in the development and facilitating of job search related workshops; make reminder calls to clients scheduled for workshops
  • Market workshops and training sessions to clientele using social media, and by assisting with posters, flyers, and other advertisement as required
  • Assist in updating the Futureworx website with scheduled events and workshops
  • Assist in creating and maintaining a client and employer database (enter client and employer information)
  • Answer incoming calls and provide appropriate information, receive and send out mail, and help clients with office machines
Other Requirements :
  • Candidates must be able to qualify for the Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) program funding requirements
  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations
  • Must possesses effective communication skills both verbal and written, and must be able to interact with clients and professionals at all levels
  • Strong computer skills, proficient with using various Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other); comfortable with using social media
  • Asset: enrolled in a Human Services, Social Work, Human Resource, Education and/or Counselling program preferred Strong computer skills preferred
  • Expected start date is early to mid June, and run between 8 and 10 weeks and 30 to 35 hours per week (depending on number of weeks)
Salary Range: $11.55 per hour
