Responsibilities

Northern Zone (Colchester, Cumberland, Pictou):

Cook’s Helper

The Cook’s Helper is responsible for the safe preparation of food for clients, using basic food preparation and reheating of some menu items and responsible for serving of food as required, in accordance with the menu guidelines and therapeutic restrictions. * Grade 12 or equivalent required, Food Safety and Sanitation Course required or willingness to obtain within six months, three (3) years hospital food service experience required

Utility Worker

Assist supervisory and skilled food service personnel in the preparation and serving of food for patients, staff and visitors. *Grade 12 education required, Food Safety and Sanitation Course required or willingness to obtain upon 6 months of hire.

Western Zone (Valley/South Shore):

Food Service Worker

Perform assigned duties in meal preparation, meal delivery, cafeteria service and cleaning.   * Grade 12 education required, Food Safety Level 1 (Food Handlers) required or willing to obtain within six (6) months

Food Production Worker

Perform assigned duties in meal preparation, heating/reheating of food, meal service, cafeteria and catering service and cleaning related to providing quality, safe and nutritious food as per the food service model to the patients, clients and customers of the facility/community. * Grade 12 education required, Minimum one (1) year experience in cooking and food preparation, Successful completion of Food Handlers Course within the past five years or willing to obtain within six (6) months

This is a Health Support bargaining unit, CUPE position. Preference is given to bargaining unit employees for unionized positions.

Recently our Employer Engagement Specialist from Colchester was invited by the Office of African Nova Scotian Affairs to join them and other community leaders/organizations for an interactive morning at the Nova Scotia Construction Sector Council Trades Exhibition Hall. This hall is a unique venue that offers students, job seekers, employment counsellors, teachers, and the general public an opportunity to experience construction occupations in a tangible way.

The Hall features 14 interactive exhibits (booths) where visitors can learn about construction careers by participating in a variety of hands-on demonstrations and speaking with industry professionals at different stages of their careers. A few examples of the booths are: Boilermaker, Bricklayer, Carpenter/Millwright, Electrician, Management, Operating Engineer, and Sheet Metal Worker.
