POSITION SUMMARY:

 The Truro Development Corporation Limited, operating as the Downtown Truro Partnership, is a not for profit organization whose membership is comprised of businesses located within the Town of Truro’s Urban Regional Core.

The Downtown Truro Summer Events Ambassador will gain invaluable experience learning all facets of special event planning and marketing, working directly with the Executive Director in planning, supporting, executing and marketing a wide range of events. The position will also act as an ambassador for the organization and the downtown core business community within the greater community. The Ambassador will become familiar with the processes of event administration, while also learning in a creative and engaging environment. The performance will be evaluated on the ability to create/ facilitate appealing and appropriate events, meet deadlines, follow directions and contribute workable solutions within the mandate of the Downtown Truro Partnership.

RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Assist ED and Events Coordinator with organizing special events;
  • Offer input into projects, sit in on meetings and assist in other areas;
  • Coordinate event logistics including, but not limited to, budgeting, sponsorship, volunteer relations, vendors, design and production of marketing materials;
  • Develop and distribute concert brochures and other related material;
  • Event planning, promotion and on-site execution;
  • Work in a team environment to effectively and positively represent DTP and its mission in the community;
  • Enter data of summer activities into database;
  • Perform other duties as assigned related to special events and

 

PROFESSIONAL SKILLS:

Education:

  • Have completed at least one year of post-secondary education and enrolled to return in the fall of Preference will be given to the fields of Marketing, Events, Public Relations, Recreation, Tourism, Non Profit Studies or fields demonstrated to be related;
  • Demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills;
  • ‘Can-do’ attitude and desire to learn;
  • Self-starter and the ability to work independently;
  • Strong interest in event planning/ customer service;
  • Previous event/ volunteer experience an asset;
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills;
  • Creative and detail oriented;
  • Graphic design applications experience an asset;
  • Ability to create newsletters and other promotional materials;
  • Valid driver’s license
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT:
  • Office and outside environments
  • Weekends and some evenings may be required
