Our Story

Founded in Nova Scotia in 1984, Futureworx Society is a charitable organization that helps individuals facing employment barriers realize their full potential at home, work and in the community. Working closely with our clients, we uncover and address the real obstacles that affect their ability to enter and maintain employment, with strategies as varied as the people we serve. We deliver accessible and relevant tools, resources and programs that support our clients to find meaningful work that leads to better lives.

Over 39 years ago, a social-purpose organization (then called Cobequid Neighbourhood Work Activity Program) was founded by a group of community-minded individuals driven by a passion for helping others realize their potential.

We have seen many changes over the years — new programs, new faces, many expansions, but the core of our organization’s “why”, the honour we all feel in supporting deep and meaningful changes in the journeys of the people we serve, is one thing that has never changed. Now in our 40th year, we continue to have a great sense of pride in Futureworx, as well as our resilience, responsiveness and our efforts to push the envelope of what is possible for a community-based organization with a social purpose, with passion and heart.

We embrace an entrepreneurial mindset that is unique in the employment and career services landscape. That has led to a reputation as an innovative, energetic and collaborative organization, delivering services in every county of Nova Scotia and every Canadian province and working with partners across the country and around the globe.
