St John Ambulance FA/CPRCertificate from St. Johns Ambulance – St. John Ambulance First Aid training gives participants life-saving skills and support communities across Canada. Proceeds from their training support services for seniors, youth, the community and so much more.

OH&SCertificate from Futureworx – Maintaining a safe and loss-free workplace means following the standards and practices, as set out in Nova Scotia’s Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations. The ability for all workers to reference the OH&S Act and Regulations is central to communicating safe acts and conditions.

WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System)Certificate from Futureworx – WHMIS is a comprehensive system for providing health & safety information on hazardous products intended for use, handling, or storage in Canadian workplaces. This program ensures effective communication of information by having workers understand the WHMIS system, know the hazards of the products they work with, know and apply the safe work procedures specific to their jobs and tasks, & know how to respond in an emergency. Futureworx WHMIS program is aligned with the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS).

Personality DimensionsCertificate from the Personality Dimensions Program – This dynamic workshop is the culmination of the research and validation work that was done in Canada over two decades to support temperament theory, and to provide an easily understood methodology for building self-awareness, self-esteem, and effective communication strategies.

NFSTP (National Food Safety Training Program)Certificate from NFSTP (National certification, valid for 5 years) – The NFSTP course will help food handlers and management in Food Service & Food Retail operations learn how to prepare and serve safe food. It will help them integrate safe food handling practices into their workplace. This course is based on standards established in the Food Retail & Food Services Regulation & Code (FRFSRC), and recommendations from Health Canada & the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).

Dementia: Understanding the JourneyCertificate from ADODCC – ADODCC is based on the philosophy that persons with dementia have the same basic needs for security, shelter, nutrition and affection as other adults, and have the same rights to have these basic needs met. The challenge for caregivers is to meet these needs, as progressive disease symptoms cause increasing dependence. This course endeavours to meet that need with a standardized education program that enables persons caring for individuals with dementia to learn about and enhance their skills in caring for these individuals.

Palliative CareCertificate from Cancer Care Nova Scotia – This three-day workshop has been designed to enhance the care provided to palliative care patients and their families in all care settings in Nova Scotia. It provides education to all members of the interprofessional front-line care team and to students in the Practical Nursing and Continuing Care Assistant programs. This interactive program includes lectures, exercises, small and large group discussions, and the application of theory to real life scenarios.

Gentle Persuasive Approaches (GPA)Certificate from Advanced Gerontological Education (AGE) – GPA is an innovative dementia care curriculum based on a person-centred care approach. Designed for interdisciplinary point of care staff across a variety of sectors. The education session is evidence-based, interactive, and practical. The workshop guides participants to understand responsive behaviours, in order to be able to respond effectively and appropriately in a workplace setting.

Dysphagia Awareness WorkshopCertificate from NS Hearing & Speech Centre – This workshop is to raise awareness of normal swallow and dysphagia to inform, assess and be aware of ongoing care of adults with dysphagia. By the end of the awareness workshop participants will be able to:

  • Outline the normal swallow mechanism
  • Define dysphagia, aspiration and associated risks
  • Discuss responsibilities in relation to feeding those with acknowledged risk
  • Outline the descriptors, best practice guidelines & advice for managing dysphagia
  • Participate in a practical feeding session

Communications – Stroke/Neurological ConditionsCertificate from NS Hearing & Speech Centre – This workshop is centered on communication with people after a stroke or other similar neurological event. Following a stroke people often have difficulty expressing themselves or understanding others. In our workshop we talk about other ways to communicate or encourage communication with these individuals.

Generational DifferencesCertificate from Futureworx– This workshop raises awareness of the distinctive perspectives, motivations and expectations of each generation of employees. This highly informative and eye-opening program provides substantive information and a base of useful knowledge from which your organization can develop appropriate and effective strategies and techniques for managing, motivating and retaining all of your multi-generational talent.

MHFA (Mental Health First Aid)Certificate from MHFA – This course is designed to teach participants how to recognize and help people who are displaying signs of mental health problems or who are experiencing a mental health crisis. The course does NOT train you to be a therapist, counsellor, or mental health professional. Topics include: what mental health means, signs and symptoms of common mental health problems and crisis situations, a basic model to provide Mental Health First Aid, information about effective interventions and treatments, and how to access professional help.

Bully-Free WorkplaceCertificate from Futureworx – This workshop provides employee education to:

  • Define & identify bullying behaviors
  • Recognize health effects on employees
  • Understand the impact on workplaces
  • Explore personal and formal remedie
  • Assess & address risks associated with bullying behaviour
  • Recommend strategies that support sustainability and promote psychological health & safety in the workplace

Diversity in the WorkplaceCertificate from Futureworx– This workshop is designed to increase participants’ cultural awareness, knowledge, & communication. Diversity training can benefit an organization by helping to prevent civil rights violations & increasing the inclusion of different identity groups. The workshops main goal is to help create a positive work environment by helping employees recognize & be tolerant of differences among co-workers.

The Employability Skills Assessment Tool (ESAT) provides a framework and quantitative assessment methodology for the development of nine employability skills: motivation, attitude, accountability, time management, stress management, presentation, teamwork, adaptability and confidence.
