Women First

Futureworx has been selected as a delivery partner on the Women First: Women Employment Readiness Pilot Program, WERP administered nationally by PTP in Toronto, with funding support from Employment and Social Development Canada.  The focus of this undertaking is to study the impacts of including wrap-around supports in the delivery of services to marginalized women.

The goal is to identify promising models for providing pre-employment and skill development supports defined as foundational and transferable skills training and wrap-around supports for different groups of multi-barriered women, specifically the following four sub-groups:

  • Racialized and/or Indigenous women
  • Women with disabilities
  • Women from the LGBTQ2 community
  • Women who have been out of the workforce for a long time

This ‘Women First’ program will be an amazing opportunity for women to have a safe space to share, collaborate, and relate with other women.   We are offering a FREE 11-week program which includes: pre-employment activities, career decision making tools, skills enhancement workshops and certificates and experiential work placement.

Futureworx is now a Nova Scotia Works Employment Services Centre. We help job seekers and employers navigate a range of programs - from career planning, job searches and on-the-job development to recruitment, planning and HR support.

The Employability Skills Assessment Tool (ESAT) provides a framework and quantitative assessment methodology for the development of nine employability skills: motivation, attitude, accountability, time management, stress management, presentation, teamwork, adaptability and confidence.

December 3rd is declared by the United Nations as the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. This day is meant to remind us of our responsibility as a society to promote the rights and well being of persons living with disabilities. In honour of this day, staff of our Truro Campus and Nova Scotia Works Centre donated their Casual Day funds to the Autism NS Truro Chapter to support their vision of an accessible and equitable community. Donations received go directly to programs Autism NS provides to members of our community. The staff of our Elmsdale Nova Scotia Works Centre were in the foyer of the Lloyd E. Matheson Centre to raise awareness of corporate social responsibility and consumer buying power in changing attitudes of hiring persons living with disabilities. We encourage businesses to explore this untapped workforce, and encourage consumers to become socially responsible shoppers by supporting corporations who invest in advancing and enhancing the lives of people living with disabilities. ...
